RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Thanks for uploading the photos, Gabriel. And thanks for the description. The process is almost exactly as I had imagined it, but perhaps I hadn't expressed it clearly. Anyway, the film looks like...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Du solltest die ersten halbdutzend seiten diesem Thread nochmal durchlesen. Da findest Du wahrscheinscheinlich alles was gebraucht würde, z.B. Spannten und Profile. Das Kit von AZM besteht aus...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Rolf, if you read back earlier in this LONG thread, you'll find that the team from the new Pfalz were in contact with the people here and we exchanged some information back and forth. They were not...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

The process used on the Pfalz is similar in concept but different in detail. For one the sides of the "wickelrumpf" were, in fact, laid down (in crossing strips) in pre-shaped moulds. The two...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I just have to post this photo which illustrates the weird and wonderful ways that modelers and replica builders interact. I didn't realize when I started this thread back in 2005 that it would...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I just love to see these Pfalzes rolling off the assembly line! It seems like a million years ago that I started this thread (just as "research" as I didn't yet think it would be possible to do any...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Yours was a work of art. What a frustrating way to lose it. [:@]

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

The AZM kit is based on a modified very of Tom Polapink's DIII plans. A better set of plans are those by Alan Spievak. Both are 1/6 scale. I have both and the Spievak plans are much better, both...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I just received an email from Alan Spievack's brother, Lee, informing me that Alan passed away on March 15th. He will be missed as a fine human being, a pioneering scale modeler, and our friend and...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Alan, sounds like your model lived a long and happy life! Out of curiousity, if you were going to draw your plans again today, is there anything you'd do differently in terms of scale accuracy?

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Wow, great looking tripe! It's just one more reminder that there really isn't anything new under the sun in WWI scale modeling. All one can do it build bigger or better -- and in some cases better...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Clever, clever! I look forward to a new (and better ;) ) set of glamour and flying shots. Your model is spectacular and deserves more photographic attention!

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Hmmm...tough act to follow! I think I'll just wait a decade or two until people have forgotten all about it. ;)

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

FA, those look like the Spievack plans (which I'm sure Alan will confirm). We discussed the plusses and minuses of differnt plans on p.4 of this thread. In my opinion Alan's plans are more scale...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Yes, congratulations on a successful first flight (we not longer need to call it a maiden flight) and thanks ever-so-much for remembering the teddy! :D It's great to hear that it made it back to...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Seth, great work on the spinner. And it's impressive to see a shot of the whole model. BTW, I often wonder what our kids think of these things we dads spend so much time building. :)

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I can hardly wait to see a full set of glamour shots at the field and some great shots of this in the air. Do a good job and it may even become my desktop!!! :D

PS. And that teddy???

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Seth, we still luvs ya and your DIII! :D The shape of the Pfalz' nose it going to make any engine installation critical and it's likely always to be a compromise. Personally, I'm not so much...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I some ways I'm glad that WWI modeling doesn't allow us to decend quite this deeply into madness! :D Seth's work is already enough to blow my mind!

I can hardly wait to so all of Seth's Pfalz...

Kind of greedy of those Kiwis to snap up both! :D Maybe they'd be willing to loan one out to someplace in the northern hemisphere. :D:D

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Have you gone through all the early pages of this thread? I think this thread represents just about the most complete collection of references on the Pfalz DIII as exist anywhere on the web. I know...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Achim Engel of Fokker Team Schorndorf is, I believe, currently collecting information for a full-scale airworthy Pfalz DIII. At one point though I believe he said that unfortunately no more than...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I've noticed that vintage teddy bears seem to have a slightly different shape than modern teddy bears. Here's one from the 1920's.

Looks like the aircraft I'll be modeling next year also had a...
