RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

It is really cool how this thread keeps "Popping" back up! It was gone since July of 2009 this last time. But, Rhubeus found it again and brought her back!

RE: Pfalz DIII resources Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

This is indeed sad information! Alan was a true gentleman and an inspiration for us all. I need to re-read his Pfalz article in Flying Models again, for the elevendyith time!

We are loosing...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Dan's plane is also shown at the Dawn Patrol website. If you haven't seen it, ask him to show you his DeHaveland Hornet Moth. What a beauty and interesting subject.

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Seth, I've communicated with Dan Schmidt who built a 1/4th scale DIIIa and contributed here just above. Dan's airplane was also talked about with yours in a recent WW1 Aeroplanes Magazine. Sadly...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Seth, Sounds like your hard into research on the DXV! Isn't it wonderful that some information such as Herr Holtzum's letter still exists! My guess is this will be both a fun and exasperating...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Mode One.....no time like the present! :D

True enough! However, my rules are "I can only start, after I've finished"! The Pfalz isn't this one. It isn't the next one and may not even be the...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I tried to talk the other guy who's building a DXII into posting it here, as this would be a logical place for all things Pfalz, in my opinion! Dai Phan/FokkerAce's Spievak Pfalz DIIIa build could...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

At $64.00 for their 1/4 scale plans, I can't imagine they'd sell a lot of them! Of course everything they sell, seems high to me. Hopefully they make up for what they charge, with super customer...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I'm building the Balsa USA Nieuport 28 right now, so the little details your talking about, yep, I know about them! What did you power yours with? Oh, sorry, that's right were talking about Pfalzs,...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Seth, Without going back over 24 pages of information on this subject to find the answer to this question, could you tell me where the plans for your Pfalz came from?

Thanks!

P.S. did...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Geezer, I'm with you, I like the DIII the best, I never liked the rounded lower wing tips of the DIIIa. I've heard that Glen Torrance is contemplating a Pfalz, also! Good luck!

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Alan, The article is in the May 2007 (#196) issue of WW1 Aero, The Journal of the Early Aeroplane. The article is written by Tom Polapink, Ross Moorhouse and T.S Tavares (I think). It has a photo...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Alan, On the SE5a I am almost ready to test fly, I looked at your formula to see if it agreed with the plans. I find that the CG indicated on the plans is maybe 3/4 to an inch aft of the point...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I guess I'm interested in seeing the Pfalz in the air; also, but not nearly as interested as I have been in this entire build thread! Fly the plane when it and you are ready and when conditions are...

"Danged" if the guy don't look like Bruno Stachel! To bad you built the DIIIa and not the DIII. Oh, well, maybe the next one!

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

My guess is only the Mercedes was used in production Pfalz DIII (a) aircraft. The reproduction would use what ever closest represented and was reliable. Not sure but I think the Pfalzs in the...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I need to clairify. Judging at a Mall Show is nothing like judging at a contest. It is not technical. It is: Oh, this one is pretty and shinny!

Yes, I am going to post some photos. I don't...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I just took my Dynaflite SE5a to a Mall Show. I had weathered the sun exposed surfaces by rubbing and daubing thined white paint all over it. My metal skinned surfaces had bare metal exposed in...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Seth, I agree with Alan, please produce a Magazine Article on your Pfalz. In this over ARFed hobby, it is so refreshing to see and talk to people whom still love to build!

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I don't know that the engine installed in the Blue Max replica was done for safety reasons, I think it was done because the Mercedes engines are rare and what WAS available had exhaust to the left.
