RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Don, why not build a simple dummy fuse-frame (couple of formers & stringers) and apply small patches of the shell using each method (balsa, veneer, ply, card?)

Maybe this would prove the (scale)...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

That Pfalz is absolutely stunning!! If I didn't know better I'd think it was a proctor kit.

I'm particularly impressed by the scale cockpit and how the radio gear is neatly tucked away out of...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Don,
I think it would be possible to do up a light and scale frame of using 2mm ply formers and thin hardwood stringers. To get it strait and true you could align each former buy incoporating...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Don,

Those plans don't look too bad if you ignore the fuse-innards.
I also thought those 'riblets' looked quite exaggerated with a more than half-chord depth/ but comparing them to the wylam...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Hehe, as a biologist I can appreciate that:D
wish I could contribute to the discussion, but I've got no experience with any of the info sources mentioned here/
Does anyone know if "Jane's WWI...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

I see you point there, adding all the internal scale details and metal bits would tend to drive up the weight/
add that to the (probably) exclusively hardwood and spruce structure of the airframe...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Don, I think that your 56 FS should be just fine for a 60" WWI bipe. Depending on how its built and detailed out, the all up weight could be anywhere in the range of 6-9lbs/
granted you won't get...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

For spars and TE I used spruce (2 x 7 mm). The front spars are also 'boxed' in with 0.4 mm (1/64 inch) ply. This gives more strength that I had thought possible. To leave at least some flexiblity for...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

For the awfully thin E.III ribs and capping I used 1mm ply (1/26th inch??).

I believe that is just about right if you're modeling in the range of 1/6 - 1/5 scale. Of course it also depends very...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Sorry I'm getting too much off topic, but I just wanted to include this method for capping scale ribs.
One of the expert builders over at rcscalebuilder used it on his proctor Nieuport 28 and I...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Yep, that's what I did too.:D Used thin strips of double-sided tape instead of glue and stacked 5 or 6 layers thin ply with a rib pattern on the top. First cut out the lightening holes with a dremel...

RE: Pfalz DIII resources -- Photos, Drawings, Plans, etc.

Don,
Must say I'm really looking forward to when you start on this project! Try and see to it that you get back to the states fast :D
Considering the monoque fuz construction, the pfalz seems...
