No matter who wrestles it, it will be a handful. I was about 60lbs back in post #905. Hopefully I can get it off the table to the cradle by myself but after the wings are on its another story getting it off the cradle to the ground. We will see.
The last couple of days I got nothing done. Felt crappy and started losing my voice plus the workshop area was captured by lots of boxes and packages to wrap and ship. Will give it a try next week again.

The Flex formula seems to have cured very well. If it is a little flexible it may even be better than the regular Six10. We will see.
Thanks for the heads up. I was not really aware I bought the flex tube.

The Flex may be a good alternative for landing gear mountings or other high stress parts.

Got it from the table to the floor!
Well this is as far as it got during the last 10 days. The crappy feeling I mentioned above developed into a full blown sinus infection and put me on my behind for the last week. I'm taking some big pink horse pills for the next week and hoping to get some energy back. I finally got back to the shop today and cleaned up the Christmas stuff and got the jet moved to the floor. I think the fuse is about 40-42 lbs without the wings. Now I remember why I sold the other big jets!
I figured that was enough for the day when my wife shows up and has a swing set for the grandkids in then van that needs put together by Christmas eve. Oh boy! It may be a few more days before I can get the wings on it and on the ground for fuel and turbine testing. Hanging in there for now... Merry Christmas everyone!

Jet fully assembled on ground for first time!
I finally got back to the shop after the sick break, grandkids school holiday break, and Christmas and New Years week. Was a tough one for us because of two deaths in the extended family over the Christmas weekend. Finally got all the Christmas decorations packed up, caught up on house chores, and shop back in order.
Nothing special here except the last assembly step completed. The main fuel line from the tank to the air trap is attached and safety wired. I just looked at it for a minute and thought about all the steps before it.
Re purposed the BVM F-16 cradle for a wing tip stand while attaching the wings. Adjustable and worked well.
Used a cardboard box to keep left wing level when attaching right wing. Was a little more difficult to get main wing spar bolts inserted into the holes with the turbine installed but not bad. The biggest issue is me having to bend over to get them in.
The hard step is getting the wing spar bolts in the gear well installed. Now that the jet is on the cradle low to the ground I had to lay down under the wing to get the bolts in. It takes 2 trips under each wing since I have found it wise not to tighten any bolts until all bolts have threads engaged. I confiscated my granddaughters old kindergarten mat for some padding. Getting down and getting up is not my best move needless to say.
Wings all bolted on. Air tanks filled and jet turned on. All gears extended.
It turned out not to be as hard to get off the cradle as I had feared. I swung the nose off to the left and rested the nose gear on ground. The main gears cleared the cradle with no issues. Then I just lifted the tail off and pivoted on the nose gear till the wings cleared the cradle. Without batteries, nose cone, and canopy, it sat on the tail.
With all the parts installed it sits on the nose gear correctly. This is the first photo of the F-105 fully assembled on it's gear.
Some more happy snaps!
It has long main gear struts.
A very unique shape.
The next steps are fuel system checks, purge air from fuel feed line, and turbine start tests. Then I will do some taxi checks in the yard. Weather forecast is bad for next two days so maybe next week after grandkids go back to school. To be continued...

Hi Gary,
That jet is really awesome!
Just watching it taxi around the lawn next week will be exciting!
Our condolences on the loss of family members.
Take care,
Franko

Fuel system tests and first turbine start
Found a better way to hold wings in place while installing bolts. I used the two air tight containers that I store my 3D filament spools in. Just the right height and on wheels.
Wings on and ready for testing.
All connections rechecked and fuel pump started. 5L pumped in to get level over tank clunk fitting. I did it in stages to check for leaks. Didn't find any.
Fuel line from pump to turbine attached to fuel jug for pump testing and line purge. I ran about 2L out of the tank and got all bubbles out of the fuel filter.
Fuel line reconnected and pre start checklist complete. Ready for first start. It wouldn't start. Tried everything I knew and no luck. I called my friend Chet and he suggested changing some start settings. Then turbine started on the next attempt followed by 2 more perfect starts.

Hi Ron,
Nice pics of Bob's first one. I was planning the southeast Asia 4 color camo scheme with a jet from the 13th or 421st Fighter Squadron as a subject.
Nice work on your SU-17!

Time for the next guy to finish the F-105 project!
I've been planning to sell the F-105 after construction and assembly was complete for the last 6 months. It's been 3 1/2 years on the project and life and interests change. Lot's of reasons, logistics, health, but mainly when it's not as fun and the passion for a project is gone it's time to move on. It's time for someone else to finish this project. I'll be posting an add in RCU, RCG, and FB listings with these photos.
