well, too much time without updates. M548 was nearly considered done, only needs the smoke generator fitted and paint the hull but there's something more important.the henglong gearboxes are not up to the task.I'm already on the second set.

Working on new system using these gearboxes:

Ordered a 33:1 to test

Thought of machine the structure but 3d printing could do the job

First of all, I'll not say that this was my original creation
There's a german shop( https://www.modellspiegel.com/) who created and sells these gearboxes for 1/16 tanks:I had several ideas for the new drivetrain and the chosen was heavily influenced by this layout aboveBut I the time, I'm not in condition of forking out all that money and also like to do things myself as much as possibleTo the build, this is where it sits now:
Test trial :

I'll be ordering a slower gearbox

Good news everybody!

Things have been quiet but I'm working on the new transmission as parts arrive.

The test 33:1 gearbox was been replaced by twin 56:1 gearboxes and got the right pinions so was a matter of making the shafts, spacers and assembling everything

The transmission structure will be replaced by a V2 version that fits better on the hull, that's already printed

I thought the truck would be ready by now but I've had a few setbacks. For now, I can show you the drivetrain working outside the m548
It's not a feat of engineering but I'm pretty happy with it. The old one was loud

And there it is,assembled and working. Just need a cover to reduce some noise and prevent that some LED wires don't get caught on the gears. The electronics are not in place because I'm about to take everything out to paint the hull

There's some video.Sorry about the background but I can't go to the woods right now

Dollhouse stuff:

Thought that the operator needed some goggles for his helmet. The first idea was to scratchbuild everything but my Dremel broke so I've copied the goggles' frame from the real army model and 3d printed it.The lens are from a bit of clear package plastic and the strap is a strip of bicycle inner tube

This job has been delayed for a while, more than a year. Have the mounts in place, the tools but didn't found anything suitable for making the straps to hold everything

When doing the strap for the goggles, remembered to do this also and the rubber strips do the job well. Tooling foil strips for the buckles(?)

Now a small detail that it's almost invisible but wanted to do it anyway

Each road wheel arm has a piece atached to the hull where the axle pivots

So printed 8 of these:

These were meant to be bolted on but will try with glue only, for now

While I love original engineering the Lateral gearbox concept that you acknowledge was not your idea does have one major failing and that is it steals valuable space in the Hull from other ancillaries,
The older less efficient layout did have one advantage in that the motors could be stacked above the gears thereby saving space.

Thanks.. The older layout had that space advantage. These motors are angled now for that reason, to clear the suspension parts. Something that wasn't needed before... But there's still lots of space available. The battery sits in the back of the hull, the escs are glued to the sides, along with the receiver and the v-tail mixer. The light controller is inside of bench seat and the smoke generator will be under the smoke stack. I'm even thinking in adding a fake engine.

My goal of closing off the drivetrain it's closer to finish.Needed something on top to keep away dirt and sand

First idea was a standard cover but started to mess with the 3d printer and decided to do a more elaborate clear cover to see the gears working(might sound like a joke but many non-rc people who see this truck don't understand how this truck moves or why it needs 2 motors...)

Put some rubber over the sheetmetal to cover 2 previous holes from the first gearboxes and to supress some noise

And a small rubber lip on the cover to keep sand and dirt away

The M548 often came with the winch to load cargo, mainly ammo

I thought mine would look more complete with it so...3D printed the I-beam and the winch:

Well, the truck is rebuilt, didn't change the pinions but eliminate the weak spots....

Had the urge to do another accessory for Bishop, now a set of binoculars to spot other fellow truckers

The binoculars are printed, the strap is a strip of rubber and for the lenses, I put a drop of green threadlock in place(designed those parts like small cups)

Those look good, and so does the strap, but you might want to try the elastic stuff they use for aircraft antennas in the static modeling Hobby. Can't remember the name of the damn stuff, but I have a roll at home and it's not very expensive and it makes absolutely perfect binocular straps in 1/16 scale. Nice and flexible so they'll hang real naturally.

Thanks! I used what i've found at home but if you find the name of that material, I'll appreciate

It's called EZ Line. A Google search for EZ line model aircraft thread will give you several different suppliers.

If you decide to do a rebuild in the future you might want to fit "Velcro" to secure the fixtures and fittings that are presently glued in place,
Just as secure as Glue but easy to remove or relocate as necessary.

Well, truck is basically done. Just need some details.

One is a set of tags and labels, like this one:

The other one came to mind a couple days ago. The seat cushions I've had were fine. Cloth with foam inside, just don't look very scale

So, took some modelling clay, did a mold to have a uniform thickness , the texture was made pressing cloth to the clay and the stitching was with a spatula. Roughed them up a bit and the next day, applied Tamiya XF-62

Having ridden on one of these that my friend owns you have done an excellent job of nailing all the details. Good work.
